Many times parents get frustrated because their child is hyper, rambunctious and won't settle down. But have we considered what we allow in their diet?  If you are wondering why your child has concentrations issues, throws temper tantrums or have problems falling asleep, look no farther than the food additives that are in the food and snacks they eat.

Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight what scientists are saying may be the cause for your child's behavioral problems according to The Food Commission.

  1. Artificial Colors: Anything on the label that reads "blue" or FD&C. Bad news.
  2. Chemical Preservatives: Chemicals like Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Nitrate or what is known as BHA - Butylated Hydroxyanisole should not be a part of a child's food regime.
  3. Added Salt: Try and choose foods with the lowest amount of salt.
  4. Added Sugar: Need we say more? HFCS - High Fructose Corn Syrup and Dextrose has adverse effects on children and adults.
  5. Artificial Sweeteners: They may be lower calerie, but you don't get something for nothing. There have been studies on Aspartame, Acesulfame-K and Saccharin that show them to be cancer causing.
