Red Flag Warning Issued for Cheyenne, Other Areas of SE Wyoming
The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for extremely high fire danger until 6 p.m. today.
The good news is that rain and snow showers this evening may dampen the fire danger.
The warning comes on the heels of a large grass fire near Cheyenne on Friday that torched about 6600 acres, severely damaged three structures, and forced mandatory evacuations of some subdivisions.
The weather service posted the following on its website:
Red Flag Warnings are in effect for portions of southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska on Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Critical fire weather conditions are expected in these areas where there is no snow cover. Any fires that develop could spread rapidly, therefore, outdoor burning is not recommended. Gusty winds and dry conditions are expected.
