Wyoming Trooper Finds Meth During Routine Traffic Stop
A 61-year-old Denver, Colorado man is facing a felony charge in Laramie County after a Wyoming trooper reportedly caught him with methamphetamine.
Traffic Stop Leads to 13.9 Grams of Meth
According to a booking sheet, Ted P. Sperling was arrested at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, after the trooper stopped him at milepost 4 on Interstate 25 north for failing to obey a traffic control device.
The stop reportedly led to the discovery of 13.9 grams of methamphetamine.

Sperling was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison, up to a $15,000 fine, or both.
Initial Court Appearance
The following afternoon, Aug. 29, Sterling was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Sean C. Chambers on the charge.
Chambers appointed Sterling a public defender and asked for the state's bond recommendation.
"Mr. Sperling has an extensive criminal history," the state said, citing drug convictions in 1987 and 2023, a probation violation in 1996, and a contempt of court in 2013.
"The amount (of methamphetamine) that he was in possession of alleged in the PC affidavit gives the state concern for the safety of the community as well as concern on his ability to return to court due to his lack of ties with the community and would recommend a $2,000 cash bond," the state added.
Bond Set at $2K Cash
Chambers adopted the state's recommendation and Sterling's preliminary hearing was set for Friday, Sept. 5, at 9:45 a.m.
Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
