Friday will be the fifth snow day in a row for Laramie County School District 1 students.

LCSD1 Superintendent Dr. Boyd Brown says the following factors influenced the decision:

  • Many areas across the district are down to one-lane traffic in subdivisions.
  • 80% of the sidewalks are not cleared for students to walk and we do not want them walking in the streets.
  • We cannot run the buses with the narrow streets, tight corners and limited staff. We know that this will impact more than 3,000 of our students.
  • We have one lane traffic by many of our schools and believe the congestion and inability to provide safe drop off areas put students and parents at risk.
  • Having the amount of student and parent traffic on the one-lane streets in a relatively short time period has the possibility of creating choke points and stuck vehicles to exacerbate the situation and may increase vehicle accidents.

“We appreciate the work our building and grounds crews have accomplished as well as the work the city and county have accomplished regarding clearing the snow from this storm,” Brown said in a news release.

“We believe the safest option for our students is to not have school tomorrow and to allow all the snow removal crews Friday through Sunday to make it safer for students and staff members to attend school," he added.

The district says any closure or delay information beyond Friday will be communicated prior to 6 a.m. on Monday, March 22.

Pictures From Wyoming Snowpocalypse 2021

After two days and 30-odd inches of sow, southeast Wyoming was left buried. An in the grand tradition of every generation since the invention of the camera, we took pictures of the snow.

The Blizzard of March 2021 covered up our driveways, fences, and in some cases porches. It trapped up in our homes and canceled our plans.

Here's a quick look around the Cheyenne area from Sunday (March 14) and Monday (March 15).
