Little Snake River Ties 78-Year-Old Wyoming State Record

Heading into the Wyoming Class 1A 6-Man State Championship this weekend, Little Snake River still hasn't allowed a point this season. The Rattlers tied a 78-year-old state record on Saturday, beating Hulett 61-0 for their ninth consecutive shutout victory.

The boys from Baggs, Wyo. have now outscored their opponents 526-0 in 2019, recording an average margin of victory over 58 points per game. Their dominance is unprecedented in the history of six-man football in Wyoming. The longest consecutive shutout streak in the Class 1A Six-Man division was five, set by Byron in 1939. Kaycee set the six-man season scoring record in 2017, allowing an average of 10 points per game. If the Rattlers give up less than 100 points in the state championship game, they will set a new state six-man record for the best single-season scoring defense.

Little Snake River joined three Wyoming high schools in the record book this weekend, according to Wyoming-football.com. Rock Springs was the most recent team to record nine straight shoutout wins in 1940 and 1941. Sheridan didn't allow a point for three seasons, shutting out nine opponents from 1916 to 1919. Ten Sleep also recorded nine consecutive shutouts in 1935 and 1936.

Breaking the shoutout record will be a much tougher task for Little Snake River in the state championship Saturday morning in Laramie. #2 H.E.M. is also undefeated this season and their high-powered offense scored 92 points in the semifinals against Lingle-Fort Laramie. If the Rattlers can blank the Miners this weekend, Little Snake River will go down among the greatest high school football teams to ever play in Wyoming.
