Laramie County School District Number One elementary and junior high staff will begin  Olweus Bullying Prevention training on May 25th. The Olweus program will be fully implemented in  district 1 in K-8th grade schools this fall. At the 9th-12th grade level, the Safe schools Ambassadors Bully Prevention Program has already been implemented. Part of the  Olweus training will include examining data collected in January from 3rd through 8th grade students. The data showed that 25 percent of the 5,361 students surveyed, reported that they had been bullied 2-3 times a month. District One Superintendent Dr. Mark Stock says the number was above the national average.

Stock says  teachers, paraprofessionals, custodial and transportation staff members will learn more about the program and how it will be implemented. Future Olweus trainings will be held for cafeteria staff, substitute teachers and other departments within the district in August. A community kick-off event is scheduled for August 25th from 1-4 p.m. at the Lions Park Amphitheater. That event is being held in partnership with the Cheyenne Police Department.
