Students and staff at Rawlins High School are mourning the death of a classmate who was fatally injured in a rollover crash late Saturday night.

"Cody [Scott] will be remembered as a bright young man with a contagious smile on his face and personality to match," Principal Darren Heslep said in an email Monday.

Scott was driving a Kia on Ferris Crossing Road in Carbon County at roughly 11:40 p.m. Saturday when, as he crested a hill, he lost control of the vehicle.

The Kia rolled multiple times, ejecting Scott and one of his four passengers. Scott was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County, where he died of his injuries.

"He was excited and enthusiastic about almost everything he was involved with," Heslep added. "Cody was well liked and respected by our staff and students throughout the district."

Scott and his passengers were not wearing their seat belts on Saturday night, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. While Scott perished following the crash, his four passengers were injured and had to be hospitalized.

Heslep said Scott had been set to graduate this spring and had been accepted to Casper College, where he intended to pursue a degree in physical/health education.

"Whether at work, at school, or out in the community, Cody was the kind of young man who would make time to stop and say 'hi' and ask you are doing," Heslep continued.

Scott's death was not the only tragedy that occurred in Wyoming over Mother's Day weekend. Early Saturday morning, 16-year-old Triston Addison and her passenger were both thrown from a pickup truck on U.S. 26.

Neither Addison nor her passenger was properly restrained, and Addison later died at a hospital in Riverton.

As of Sunday evening, 62 people had died on Wyoming highways since Jan. 1.
