Laramie County Fair officials are hoping to add an RV park and camping area at the Archer Complex by next summer.

"The Jackalope RV Camping Club came to us about six months ago and were asking us if we had RV sites," said Fair Manager Jeff Ketchum. "They have an annual camping get together and they'd like to do it at Archer."

Laramie County Commissioners are seeking $85,294 in grants from the State Loan and Investment Board (SLIB) for the project.

"We're looking at 100 overflow RV spaces and 25 permanent 3/4 full hookups," said Ketchum. "Right now at Frontier Park we have, I think, 75 campground spaces that we rent out to the fair goers. So these RV spots would also be used during the fair when we get the fair moved out here."

Ketchum says they've had to turn a number of RV organizations away.

"We get a lot of calls about it," said Ketchum. "We even had the Airstream people call and wanted to have an RV show here. Of course, we don't have a facility to hold it in or the RV hookups, but those are things down the road that can certainly happen here if we have those hookups."

The SLIB will consider the grant applications during its August 11 meeting.
