Road Trip or Home This Wknd

We’re all gearing up for another three day weekend this upcoming Labor Day, but what are you gearing up for, hitting the road or staying home?

According to AAA Travel, an estimated 34.7 million people plan to hit the road and travel 50 miles or more this Labor Day weekend, making it the highest volume for this holiday weekend since 2008, and nearly 86% of people plan to make this weekend one final road trip before summer officially comes to an end.

However, according to a survey by YouGov, an estimated 54% of Americans did NOT take a vacation this past year, and more people are actually staying home on their vacations or holiday weekends, taking what is commonly known as “staycations.”

My husband and I would LOVE to hop in a car and go somewhere around this beautiful Cowboy State of ours, and see all the sights that we’ve been talking about seeing for months, but we usually do an about face and stay home because, like so many of us who have grueling schedules, we want to get those “things around the house” that we normally don’t have time to take care of, taken care of.

If you do plan to head out and see the “wild frontier” this fine state has to offer, Wyoming Tourism have some wonderful itineraries that suggest where to go and what to see, including visiting the “Western-rooted towns like Rock Springs, Green River and Afton” for a bit of “fresh air experiences, including hiking, biking, camping, fishing kayaking and wildlife spotting."

One of their itineraries suggest you should “Start your trip on the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Loop between Rock Springs and Green River, a 50 mile route where you have the chance to see 800 to 1,000 wild horses gaze among a landscape of sagebrush…”

I think the last time I saw Yellowstone National Park, I was all of 5 years old, so that would be an option, as is Jackson Hole, even taking the not so long drive from Cheyenne to Saratoga to enjoy the natural hot springs would be a wonderful way to spend this Labor Day Weekend.

But then again, fixing that leaky faucet in our guest bathroom, catching up on laundry, and finally fixing the gate to our fence would also be a nice thing to get done, even though taking a dip in the hot springs certainly sounds like more fun.
