Summer Cheyenne Farmer’s Market Kicks Off On Saturday

The 2019 Summer Cheyenne Farmer's Market will kick off on Saturday, August 3 in downtown Cheyenne.

The market will be held from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on 15th Street between Carey and O'Neil Avenues.

The market, which is a fundraiser for Community Action of Laramie County, typically features Wyoming and Colorado fruits, vegetables, baked good, jams, jellies, salsa, dairy products, meats, gourmet coffees and a variety of other items.

Former Cheyenne Botanic Gardens Executive Director Shan Smith, who was one of the original founders of the Farmer's Market, said in a 2016 interview that timing your visit to a farmer's market mostly depends on what your goals are.

He said if you are trying to get the highest quality products, you should get there as early as possible before everything has been picked over. On the other hand, if you are bargain shopping, you should shop towards the end of the event, because vendors are more willing to offer deals on their food rather than take a loss.

Smith also said it's never a bad idea to ask a few questions about when the food was harvested and where it came from.

He said just because it's a farmer's market doesn't always mean the products offered are fresh from the field. In some cases, wholesale food vendors will set up booths essentially selling the same produce that is available in your local grocery store.
