Happy National Cookie Day. The annual celebration, observed every year on December 4th, dates back to 1987 when it was declared an unofficial holiday by the Blue Chip Cookie Company.

In 1980,  "The Cookie Monster" also lobbied for a National Cookie Day celebration in the The Sesame Street Dictionary.

Here in Cheyenne, there are several places to observe this delicious occasion. Here's five of our favorites:

1. Eileen's Colossal Cookies - This shop, located on 3757 East Lincolnway, makes custom cookies in 15 different flavors and several different sizes, including their 14 inch cookie pizzas.

2. The Bread Basket Bakery and Sandwich Shoppe - Known far and wide for their fresh baked bread, pies, pastries, cakes and sandwiches, this shop, located at 1819 Maxwell Avenue, also makes tasty cookies in seven different flavors.

3. Our Li'l Bakery - Although they don't have a retail location, this home based Cheyenne bakery specializes in custom treats, including fudge, turtles, cupcakes, truffles, brownies and, of course, cookies.

4. The Paramount Cafe - More of a coffee shop than a bakery, this popular downtown hangout, located on 1607 Capitol Avenue, also serves a variety of fresh pastries, along with breakfast burritos and their signature macaroon cookies.

5. Get some Girl Scout Cookies - You can never go wrong with a package of Thin Mints or Caramel Delights (aka Samoas). Luckily, you can now buy 'em anytime, online at girlscouts.org.
