The Future Flew Into Cheyenne Regional Yesterday

Tuesday at Cheyenne Regional Airport, Cliff Cox captured the new prototype from Boeing, the KC-46A, a military equivalent of the Boeing 767.

Cliff took these pictures and told me on Tuesday evening; “Boeing KC-46 Pegasus was doing headwind autoland tests here this morning!”

Kenneth Bakke posted “The KC-46A is intended to replace the United States Air Force's aging fleet of KC-135 Stratotankers and provides vital air refueling capability for the United States Air Force.”

CBS5 says the plane holds over 30,000 gallons of fuel and say the currently civilian aircraft using the Cheyenne Regional facilities is a money maker for the airport.

The Boeing Company has a field office on Missile Drive in Cheyenne, but is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Their highest elevation is 672 feet, which is a nonstarter when tests for altitude and wind are needed. Welcome to Cheyenne, Wyoming, altitude 6,062 ft and the weather just happened to be under a High Wind Warning while the test flights were being done.
