If you travel across Wyoming, you stand a better chance of seeing a bear than a payphone. According to an online payphone directory, there are now less than 100 of them still in service.

Like bears, most of the few payphones left are in or around Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. The directory only lists two working numbers assigned to payphones in Laramie and none Casper or Cheyenne.

Not long ago, there was a pay phone at nearly every convenience store, government building and restaurant in the state. These days, finding a payphone is more difficult than finding a cell signal in the mountains.
