In Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, 82-year-old Bud Caldwell lost his wife Betty a couple of years ago, after 56 years together.  Missing her dearly, Bud bought a bench at a local park and dedicated it to her memory. He visits it every day, without fail. Each visit, Bud brings Betty a daisy and a penny . . . which have to do with two of their favorite songs, "Pennies from Heaven" and "Daisy a Day".

But after a heavy snow a few weeks ago, Bud couldn't get to the bench.  Because the year before, he tried walking through the snow and fell.  Not wanting to risk that again, Bud decided to sit in his car, and talk to her from there.

That's when two park employees found out about it . . . and kindly started shoveling a path from his car all the way to the bench.

They say they both just knew they had to help Bud out. And they told him they'll make sure the path stays shoveled the rest of the winter.

That’s a story from Wisconsin, but I like to think it could have easily come from Wyoming, home of some of the biggest hearts around. True love is rare and one of the greatest blessings you can have. This story makes me think a beautiful song on elderly love and the way it works. The Dutchman, from Steve Goodman.

May you have gold such as this.
