Twenty gentled Bureau of Land Management (BLM) wild horses, including 10 halter-started yearlings, will be available for adoption during Mustang Days, at the Wyoming State Fair, in Douglas, Wyo., Aug. 12-16.

Mustang Days combines a wild horse and burro adoption with a competition for previous adopters and trainers to showcase their wild horses.

Halter-started yearlings will be available for viewing and silent bid adoption at the BLM booth from Aug. 12-15. Silent bids close at 6 p.m. daily, with the horse going to the highest bidder that day.

Yearlings not adopted by 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15, will join the 10 saddle-started horses for adoption by verbal competitive bid, Saturday, Aug. 16, from 4:30-5 p.m. BLM adoption qualifications, an application form and other adoption information can be found at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/programs/Wild_Horses.html.

The competition portion of Mustang Days, which is free and open to the public, begins Aug. 15, at 8:30 a.m., with the Mustang Days All Wild Horse Show. Classes include halter, lead line, team sorting, trail and western cow handling.

Events on Aug. 16 start at 2 p.m. with the Trainer Showcase, including saddle-started wild horses from the Wyoming Honor Farm and the Mantle Wild Horse Training and Adoption Facility. Those showcase horses will be available for adoption by verbal competitive bid, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
