The father of a Torrington police officer is facing multiple charges in connection with an October hit-and-run that sent a pedestrian to the hospital with serious injuries, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

According to a Torrington Police Department Facebook post, the hit-and-run happened around 7 a.m. on Oct. 24 at the intersection of Main Street (U.S. Highway 85) and Valley Road (U.S. Highway 26/85).

"At 9:20 a.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) troopers were requested to assist the City of Torrington Police Department on the crash due to a conflict of interest with the suspect involved," Sgt. Jeremy Beck said in a news release.

Beck says troopers obtained video footage from a school bus and surveillance camera footage from a nearby business and identified 68-year-old Torrington resident Juan Gomez Gallardo as the suspect driver.

Beck says it was learned that Gomez Gallardo was driving north on Main Street and was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto West Valley Road when he collided with a female crossing the street.

Beck says Gomez Gallardo left the scene without rendering aid to the struck victim.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Goshen County Attorney's Office formally charged Gomez Gallardo with aggravated assault and battery (serious bodily injury), no insurance, leaving the crash scene, and failing to give information and render aid.
