Several people were injured in a three vehicle crash on south bound I-25 near the  Wyoming-Colorado border just after 8:30 this morning (3/21).

Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Troy Mclees says a  Ford F-150, driven by 18 year old Antonio Martinez,  from Mexico, was slowing in the left lane to make a u-turn onto a paved crossover to continue north when a white GMC Jimmy, driven by 35 year old Luke Melchior of Cheyenne, who was also traveling south in the left lane, failed to slow and collided into the back of the Ford pickup.  The Ford pickup then overturned as it went into the median and over the cable guardrail.  The pickup continued across the north bound lanes, down an embankment and through the west right-of-away fence before coming to rest on its wheels facing west.

After colliding with the pickup, the Melchoir vehicle  drifted into the right lane of travel and collided with a Commercial Vehicle, owned by Alco Mobile Storage and driven by 74 year old Robert Schultz of Cheyenne., which was also south bound on I-25.  During the collision with the Commercial Vehicle the GMC Jimmywent partially under the trailer before traveling back into the left lane.  The  vehicle then came to rest facing northwest in the left lane.  The commercial vehicle pulled off the roadway immediately and safely.

McLees says both Martinez and Melchior had to be extricated from the vehicles and transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. A passenger in the GMC Jimmy, 20 year old Frank McHenry, was also taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Commercial vehicle was not injured.

Townsend says The investigation into the crash is  on-going .The cause of the crash and injury information for both drivers is not available at this time.
