The Walt Disney Company has pulled the plug on a plan to produce a remake of the Beatles' Yellow Submarine directed by Robert Zemeckis. The movie was going to use the same motion-capture technology Zemeckis has used on Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. Rolling Stone says Disney backed out due to budget concerns after a poor showing by the director's latest project. Mars Needs Moms took in less than seven million dollars in its first week while having a budget of $150 million.

Zemeckis can now offer the Yellow Submarine remake to other studios. Why mess with the original, the Peter Max-style psychedelic animation fits perfectly with the Beatle's music.
