"Dandy Don" Meredith seemed like an old friend. When I was growing up he was playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, then commenting on the games on "Monday Night Football" with Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell. Along the way he had several acting roles too, on TV playing Detective Bert Jameson on "Police Story," in the 1976 film "Banjo Hackett: Roamin' Free" as the title character and animated playing himself on "King Of The Hill." He also appeared in some memorable TV commercials sipping Lipton Ice Tea and with Keith Jackson as the on-screen announcers of "Bud Bowl 3."
Don Meredith died of a brain hemorrhage in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Sunday, December 5th, at 72. He added a lively, folksy smile to all the projects he worked on over the years. "Turn out the lights, the party's over"
