Brandon Nimmo Is Cheyenne’s Best Baseball Player And Worst Cook

Brandon Nimmo is Cheyenne's most famous athlete. He may also be the Capital City's worst cook. The New York Mets outfielder was sickened with food poisoning this week after a failed attempt to make dinner for his wife.

Nimmo reportedly undercooked a meal of chicken and sweet potatoes and was sidelined from Spring Training for two days. Mets manager Mickey Callaway told the media that Nimmo lost four pounds and joked that the team will give him cooking lessons.

"I didn't have a meat thermometer, so maybe I outta invest in one of those," Nimmo told reporters. "I might have to think about someone else cooking for me now."

Nimmo is coming off his best season as a big leaguer, slugging 17 home runs with 47 RBI and a .886 OPS. The former first-round draft pick from East High School saved his best game for friends and family who drove to Coors Field to see him hit two home runs against the Colorado Rockies on June 18th. Nimmo's inside-the-park home run was his first since playing for Cheyenne American Legion Post Six in high school.

"They seemed like superheroes," Nimmo said about watching Rockies games as a kid. "Now being a major league baseball player, you realize we're just regular guys that work on our craft like everyone else."
