Ten years after graduating, a Cheyenne East grad is making a name for himself in the NBA, and the former Thunderbird brought down the Thunder on more than a couple of occasions, in the recent 2016-2017 NBA regular season.

James Johnson, a 2007 East graduate who helped the Thunderbirds win the 4A State Title in 2006, recently got #6 in NBA TV's Top 10 plays of the season.

#16 for the Miami Heat had his share of dunks, but the 2 that got the most attention in the 2016-2017 season, was when he postered Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors back on January 10, 2017, and then ran over Marcus Morris of the Detroit Pistons on March 28, 2017...the latter which was named #3 on NBATV's Dunk of the Year.

The eight year NBA veteran was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2009, after playing two years at Wake Forest University, and just completed his best season scoring-wise, averaging 12.8 points per game with the Miami Heat, who missed the playoffs by one game.

In 2016, he helped the Toronto Raptors make it to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, before losing to eventual NBA Champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Johnson has a $3 million option for next season, but the Miami Herald reports that he may opt out of it and become a free agent, although he is quoted as saying "I hope I spend the rest of my life here," referring to Miami.

On the flip side, Johnson has been on the wrong side of the poster at least once in his career.

In particular, his rookie season, during the 2010 players, LeBron James officially welcomed him to the NBA.
