March 11, 1996, a new radio station debuted in Cheyenne. 20 years later, KIGN-FM (aka KING-FM) is still going strong.

It all started when Kevin "Crash" Davis first cracked the microphone on the old 97.9 frequency, which was previously known as KFBQ, or Q-98.

According to Davis, KING hit the airwaves with a "classic hits" format, similar to what we play now. It quickly debuted as the number one station in Cheyenne and it remains one of the highest rated stations in the market to this day.

KING christened the brand new "state of the art" studios on the third floor of the ANB Bank Building downtown. It's the same studio we broadcast from today and, truth be told, it probably still looks a lot like it did 20 years ago.

Davis, who was the station's first Program Director and Morning Show Host, will always have fond memories of his time in Cheyenne. He even sent a message for those of you who have been listening since the early days.

"Thank YOU so much for keeping the KING alive! Cheyenne holds a very special place in my heart. I was blessed to have been a part of the station at its conception. Thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping it going!!!"

Thank YOU, Kevin.

On behalf of all of the great people who have worked at KING-FM over the last two decades, we thank you, Cheyenne. Because of your support, we don't have to get one of those "real jobs."

Here's to 20 more!!!
