Colorado Rockies General Manager Dan O'Dowd, who put together the 2007 team that represented the National League in the World Series, has resigned his post according to the Associated Press.

Senior Club Vice-President Bill Geivett is also leaving. O'Dowd had served as Rockies GM for the past 15 seasons, but his duties had gradually been reduced in recent seasons in favor of Geivett, who maintained an office next door to Manager Walt Weiss.

Colorado finished 66-96 in 2014 despite finishing second in Major League Baseball in home runs and a lineup that included National League batting champion Justin Morneau.

Colorado in recent seasons has shown a tendency towards strong starts followed by mid and late season swoons that left the team finishing well-below .500.

The team has been cursed by weak pitching, caused in part by the inability to lure top free agent pitchers to hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Jeff Bridich replaces O'Dowd as GM.
