At one time honey was considered sacred and only for the rich. Nature's perfect food, is used to sweeten, heal and it never spoils. Modern archeologists, excavating ancient Egyptian tombs, have often found something unexpected amongst the tombs’ artifacts: pots of honey, thousands of years old, and yet still preserved.

But getting quality honey that has ALL of the benefits can be a challenge. Processed honey can lose many of its properties that make it the food of the gods.

Producing your own honey is worth considering and Wyoming Bee College is offering a beginning beekeeping, being a better beekeeper and gardening for bees. The number one problem for our precious bees is lack of food and without bees; human food production could be decimated. We can and should help them, honey bees and domestic bees as well.

“It takes 12 bees their entire life to make a teaspoon of honey and 2 million flowers to make a pound of honey.”

Bees pollinate 70 of the around 100 crop species that feed 90 percent of the world. Honey bees are responsible for $30 billion a year in crops. Without bees, we could lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all of the animals that eat those plants and so on up the food chain. Bees are critical to our survival, but they are stressed.

Bachelor Of Science horticulturist Cathrine Wissner told me her conference already has 265 registered and 25 Bee Buddies (aged 7 – 15) and is capped at 300. Good that so many are interested, bad for those dragging their feet.
