The Brandon Nimmo Gnome Is Baseball’s Best Ballpark Giveaway

Lots of players have bobbleheads, but only one has their own garden gnome. New York Mets outfielder and Cheyenne native Brandon Nimmo was honored on Saturday with the debut of the Nimmo Gnome.

The promotional figurine was given to the first 25,000 fans before the Mets - Cardinals game. It has since popped up several eBay sites, with some sellers asking up to $30 for the collectible.

Unfortunately, Nimmo was not in the lineup to celebrate the release of his gnome. The Mets slugger recently landed on the injured list with a bulging disc in his neck. He was scratched from a Triple-A rehab assignment on Friday night and returned to New York to undergo further observation by the Mets medical staff.

The injury was originally diagnosed as a stiff neck in April and Nimmo was expected to return to the Mets lineup quickly. After the stiffness lingered, an MRI revealed the bulging disc. The team is still hopeful he can recover, however, the latest setback has raised the possibility Nimmo may need season-ending surgery.

Now in his fourth big-league season, the former East High Thunderbird has become a fan favorite in New York. Last year, Nimmo's .404 on-base percentage ranked second in the National League and fourth in MLB. His 4.4 wins above replacement (WAR) ranked 10th in the National League, his 5.1 offensive WAR ranked fifth. His adjusted OPS+ of 150 ranked second behind NL MVP Christian Yelich. His 36 adjusted batting runs ranked fifth in the NL. He was hit by 22 pitches, more than any other player in MLB. Nimmo also slugged 17 home runs and drove in 47 RBI.
