A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department reminds residents about the department's graffiti abatement program.

Officer Dan Long says warmer weather typically sees an increase in graffiti in the area, and he's reminding residents the department will usually paint over graffiti for free. All that's needed is an official police report as well as a request from the property owner for the free service.

Besides correcting the defacing of property the abatement program is also seen as anti-gang enforcement effort, since much of the graffiti is gang-related. Long also says the department will once again be organizing volunteers to go out and clean up graffiti on designated days this summer, although those dates haven't been set yet.
