Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen is reminding voters about the proposed renewal of a pair of local taxes on the general election ballot.

Both the Fifth Penny Sales Tax and the Laramie County Lodging tax have been in effect locally for many years, and the mayor says he wants people to realize they aren't proposals to levy new taxes but  renewals of existing taxes.

The Laramie County Lodging tax is a 4% tax charged to people using local motels, hotels and other temporary lodging facilities. The proceeds are used to promote visitation to Laramie County.

The fifth penny tax is mostly used for street and highway projects, but some of the money raised also goes to local law enforcement, the Laramie County Library and other local agencies.

Kaysen is asking voters to be informed on the taxes and to remember to vote on them when they cast their ballots.
