Cooler temperatures and calmer winds have helped crews battling the Russell’s Camp Fire in a remote and mountainous area of the Medicine Bow National Forest. Fire spokesperson Laura Mcconnell says 385 experienced firefighters aided by 5 helicopters are  fighting the fire in Converse county, about 32-miles south of Glenrock. Over 2,700 acres or 4 square miles has burned since Sunday.

Mcconnell says the fire is now 5 percent contained. She says the calm weather Wednesday gave crews time to reposition helicopters and other equipment before hot, dry conditions return this weekend.

Residents living along Fetterman road are being allowed to return homes and cabins. Volunteer evacuations are still in place for homes and cabins along Meadow Creek Road and Cold Springs Road south of Meadow Creek Road.
