Cheyenne firefighters raised over $32,000 during their Fill the Boot campaign this Labor Day weekend.

"It's so cool to be a part of a community that is so understanding of the many things that go on around them and their willingness to help out, especially to step up and help others in their times of needs," said campaign coordinator Derek Pollnow.

Pollnow says about 77 percent of the money will go toward the Muscular Dystrophy Association's efforts to fund research, provide support services and pay for summer camp for kids affected by neuromuscular diseases.

"The end goal is $40,000, but that's when we come to October when we have our 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off," said Pollnow. "Last year, we raised $5,000."

"We're hopeful to still hit that goal, but if not we're incredibly thrilled with the number that we're going to be able to provide to the MDA," he added.
