As we reported yesterday, rumor has it that Wyoming's Rib and Chop House, the popular downtown restaurant, may be looking to expand from its present location in the Dineen Building into the historic Cheyenne Depot.

Last night, we spoke with Rib and Chop House General Manager Wade Lancaster, who clarified those rumors for us.

According to Lancaster, it's not a done deal yet. However, they are hoping the deal will be finalized soon.

If all goes according to plan, the new brewpub will be operated by Wyoming's Rib and Chop House, but will feature a different name and menu.

They had originally planned to expand within the Dineen Building but the space was too small. They even hired a brewmaster to manage the production of beer onsite. After those plans fell through, the Rib and Chop House set their sights on the Depot, which was recently vacated by the short lived Cheyenne Brewing Company.

While Lancaster is hopeful that the expansion will go through, there are several issues that have yet to be resolved. He wouldn't give a specific timeline or reveal the name for the new restaurant. However, he hinted that the new location is still months away from opening, at the earliest.

Let's hope it happens. The Depot is Cheyenne's greatest landmark and the city needs a stable, long term tenant that will attract both tourists and locals alike.
