The Most Interesting Man in Wyoming
Inspired by the popular advertising campaign for Dos Equis beer, the website Mandatory.com recently published an article recognizing "The Most Interesting Men in the World (For Real)."
Here in the Cowboy State, we have our fair share of interesting men. However, there is one man who stands alone. He is the most interesting man in Wyoming.
C. Dale Petersen was already a world renowned hunting guide when he became one of only two men to have ever killed a grizzly bear without the benefit of a weapon.
According to a plaque which stands at the site of the legendary confrontation near Jackson, Wyo., Petersen slayed the beast with his bare hands...and his teeth.
"It is known that this bear had been aggravated by a group of backpackers. Shortly thereafter, Petersen, unaware of previous happenings, came upon the bear. A fight-to-the-death ensued. Petersen, having his right hand and arm wedged in the bears throat, actually used his own teeth and jaws to pinch off the bear's jugular vein. When the bear passed-out from lack of blood flow to the brain, Petersen beat the bear upon the head with a stick," the plaque reads.
In addition to the historical marker, a taxidermy replica of the bear is on display at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson.
