Two people are facing drug charges following a traffic stop in the Sundance Apartments parking lot late Friday evening.

Court records say 26-year-old Jennifer Beristain and 35-year-old Robert Reutlinger were stopped after a Laramie County deputy spotted them in a Jeep with a stolen Nevada license plate.

The traffic stop led to a search of the Jeep and 5.68 ounces of marijuana as well as other drug paraphernalia were found, according to an affidavit.

The two reportedly told the deputy that the marijuana belonged to them. They said it was purchased in Colorado for personal use and didn't know it was illegal to possess in Wyoming.

Beristain said she bought the marijuana for her father who has brain cancer, but her mother told the deputy that her father doesn't smoke marijuana and has lung cancer which spread to his brain.

The two were charged with felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of THC-oil. If convicted, they could each face up to six years in prison.

Beristain's bond was set at $1,000 cash and Reutlinger's at $10,000 at 10 percent. Beristain's preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 27 at 1:30 p.m. and Reutlinger's for March 28 at 10 a.m.
