Wyoming Workers Need To Make Nearly $16 Per Hour To Pay The Rent

The cost of living continues to rise here in the Cowboy State, especially for renters. A new report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition estimates that the average Wyoming worker will need to make $15.80 per hour in order to rent a two-bedroom home.

Luckily, rental rates in Wyoming are well below the national average, ranking 33rd in the study. Nationwide, the average worker would need to earn $21.21 per hour to pay their rent.

The report estimates that 31% of Wyoming households are renters. Among them, the average worker makes $14.76 per hour, over a dollar per hour less than they need to live on.

The average employee making minimum wage in Wyoming would need to work 87 hours each week to rent a two bedroom house.

Hawaii has the highest rent-to-income ratio in the country. The average employee there would need to make $35.20 per hour to afford a two-bedroom rental.

Arkansas has the most affordable rental market in the country. There, a worker would "only" need to earn $13.72 per hour to rent a home.
