Cheyenne firefighters exceeded their goal of $30,000 during their Fill the Boot campaign this Labor Day weekend.

Campaign coordinator Derek Pollnow says over $34,000 was raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

"The generosity of our community in Cheyenne is absolutely incredible," said Pollnow. "For them to come out and help us fill the boots in that fashion was really not expected."

"Last year we raised $33,500 and that was a record for Wyoming," Pollnow added. "I'd like to think that the Cheyenne firefighters are doing a good job of educating the public to know when you see us out there on Labor Day why we're out there."

Pollnow says 77 percent of the money raised from the Fill the Boot campaign will go towards MDA's efforts to fund research, provide support services and pay for summer camp for kids affected by neuromuscular diseases.
