Laramie County School District#1 Superintendent Mark Stock says many people are missing the real issue in regard to common core national education standards.

Stock says the standards themselves are fairly generic, and the bigger issue is the curriculum local schools use to achieve the standards, which includes the books school districts choose, as well as how individual teachers teach the material.

Stock adds people who are concerned about the impact of the standards should focus more attention on textbooks chosen by school districts rather than the  issue of what benchmarks the common core sets for individual grade levels.

The superintendent says there, "is a lot of misinformation" about common core, adding "the devil is in the details."
